The Sign of Jonah
  • What were the people seeking from Jesus?
    The people were seeking a sign from heaven.

  • How did Jesus respond to this seeking of signs.?
    Jesus said that it was a wicked generation that was seeking a sign. He said there would be no sign other than the sign of Jonah.

  • Who was Jonah?
    The story of Jonah is in the Old Testament. Jonah was sent to the people of Nineveh - warning them that they would be destroyed unless they repented.

  • How was the sign of Jonah significant in the time of Jesus Christ and today?
    Jesus called for people to repent then - and he still calls for people to repent.
Jesus Warns the Pharisees and Lawyers
  • Why was Jesus angry with the Pharisees and Lawyers?
    These people were guilty of creating many rules and regulations while ignoring the more serious parts of the law. They were hypocrites.
The Accumulation of Possessions
  • Jesus said some strong words against accumulating possessions. What caused him to do this?
    A man asked Jesus to get involved in settling an estate.

  • How did Jesus respond?
    Jesus told the story of a man who depended on his riches - and then died when he thought he had enough wealth.

  • Did Jesus give advice about accumulating possessions?
    Jesus said it was important to be rich in good deeds, and that we should not worry about the necessities of life. God knows and cares.
Being Ready for the Return of Jesus Christ
  • What did Jesus tell his disciples about serving the master?
    Jesus told a story about how a servant should behave when the master is absent. The servant should be ready for the return of his master.
