Chapter 24 |
The Reward Promised to the Apostles
- What are the future rewards that Jesus promised to the Apostles?
Jesus said he was giving them the kingdom. He also said that the apostles will
feast at his table and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
- What kingdom was Jesus talking about; and when?
The kingdom of God is both present and future. Jesus said that the kingdom of
God was within the individual. Jesus also talked about a future kingdom.
- Is the future kingdom of God sometime after a person dies?
In one sense it is, and not in another sense. Jesus said that when a person accepts
him as Savior and Lord, he passes from death unto life.
The Prayer of Jesus
- The gospel written by John records a very special prayer by Jesus. Who
did Jesus pray for?
Jesus prayed for his disciples and for those who will believe on him in the future.
Even today, if we believe in Jesus Christ, we are already an answer to his
prayer.
- What did Jesus ask the Father for in his prayer?
Jesus prayed that all believers would be one. This unity would be a testimony to
the world that the Father sent Jesus Christ to the world.
- How does Jesus’ prayer relate to the new commandment Jesus gave?
Jesus commanded that believers should love one another, and this love would be a
sign that they are his disciples
Peter Denies Christ
- Jesus warned Peter to be careful - that Satan desired to separate him from
his faith. How did Peter respond?
Peter told Jesus that he would be willing to go to prison - even to die.
What did Jesus then tell Peter?
Jesus told Peter that before the rooster crowed in the morning, he would deny the
Lord three times.
- What did Peter do after he actually denied the Lord?
Peter was broken hearted. He went away and wept bitterly. His tears did not
bring comfort.
