   Chapter 26

The Way to Calvary - Lament of the Women
  • Jesus saw women he knew as he made his way to Calvary. What did Jesus tell this women who were crying?
Jesus told the women not to weep over him - but to weep for themselves and their children.

Why was Jesus not concerned for himself?
There might be two possible reasons. One reason is that even in his agony, Jesus was more concerned for others. Another reason could be that Jesus knew that he would be resurrected from the dead.
The Crucifixion
  • What words did Jesus speak as he was being nailed to the cross?
Jesus asked the Father to forgive those who were going to kill him; he prayed, “Father, forgive them. They do not know what they are doing.”.

  • What did Jesus during his most terrible moments on the cross?
Jesus cried out, “My God! My God! Why have you abandoned me?”
The Death of Jesus
  • What are the last words that Jesus spoke before he died?
“Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit.”

  • How can you explain the difference between his words on the cross and his commitment to God before he died?
When he was dying, Jesus was suffering the penalty of the sins of the world. His las words reflect Jesus’ confidence in the Father. Jesus had been obedient to the Father - even unto death.

  • What happened in the Temple when Jesus died?
The curtain in the Temple that was at the entrance to the most holy place was torn from top to bottom.

  • Why was this tearing of the curtain from top to bottom important?
The curtain was a physical and spiritual separation separation between a holy God and a sinful people. The death of Jesus Christ took away the separation of people from God. There was now access to the Father through Jesus Christ - the Lamb of God that took away the sin of the world.
