Jesus at Nazareth and Capernaum

In this chapter, Jesus taught in the synagogue in Nazareth with a surprising and dangerous result. Then, we find Jesus in Capernaum where he performs miracles and calls his first four disciples.

  • In the synagogue, Jesus read from the prophet, Isaiah. Why was this so important?
    Jesus described himself as fulfilling the scripture he quoted from Isaiah.

  • What was the response of the people that heard Jesus speak?
    As he continued to speak, Jesus won the approval of the people.

  • After showing approval,why did some of the people turned against Jesus?
    Some of the people in the synagogue were skeptical. The said that Jesus was the son of Joseph - a local carpenter. Jesus said that no prophet was honored in his own home.

  • What happened when Jesus went to the synagogue at Capernaum?
    Jesus was approached by a man who was demon possessed. Jesus cast out the demon.

  • Jesus called his first four disciples while he was at Lake Galilee. What is the most surprising thing that happened after this event?
    The four fishermen left the fish they had just caught and their boats to follow Jesus. The left everything to be a disciple.

  • When Jesus healed the leper, what was so surprising to the diseased man?
    The leper was amazed that Jesus would touch him. The lepers were complete outcasts.

  • What was the major difference between the Pharisees and the Sadducees?
    The Pharisees believed in the resurrection of the body. The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the body.
