How to Present The Disciple Lessons
This course contains six sections. The first sections contains three topics each. The last section has one subject. Each subject has been planned for study during one weekly small group meeting.
The course should be coordinated as follows:
- The Lesson.
The leader for the meeting will learn the material before the community meets. The leader of the small group or a member of the community will read the topic aloud or will share the information in his or her own words. When the small group has listened to the presentation, the lesson will be discussed to learn how to apply the principle in the daily lives of the believers.
- Weekly Application.
During the week following the community meeting, efforts will be made to put the principles into practice. These efforts should begin with the immediate family and friends.
- Sharing – the Witness of Life.
Each week at the beginning of a new lesson, the small group will share about the way that the principles of the past lesson were applied in their own lives. Then the new lesson will be introduced.
- Review of Sections.
At the end of each section, the entire section will be reviewed. The members of the group should each share the principles that have been learned and applied. For example, at the conclusion of end of Section 1, each person should be able to state the theme for the section – “Becoming a Disciple of Jesus Christ.” Each person should also be able to explain the key or important theme for each lesson. In Section 1 the themes are:
- Following
Jesus Christ Faithfully
- Forming
Yourself as a Disciple
- Transforming
Yourself in Christ
Leaders of the small groups should attempt to adapt the content of the topics to those who will be receiving the teachings. For example, they can create questions for each topic that can be applied specifically for the members in the group. This helps make the teaching relevant and meaningful to the believers. The experience will be personal because the lessons that are being learned are being applied to daily living.
The preparation for offering ‘The Disciple’ will include the following:
The Place to Start: The members of a small group should be believers in Jesus Christ.
The Small Group Leader/Teacher: The leader should prepare in advance for each lesson. The leader may assign the lesson to a member of the group. The leader should assist such a member in preparing the lesson.
The Purpose of the Meeting: The purpose of the discipleship course is to introduce principles for becoming disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Objective of the Meeting: The objective of the meeting is for individuals to put the principles of discipleship into practice in their daily lives.
How Many People Should be Invited: It is recommended that each group should be twelve (12) people or fewer. The test of the program can show the leader the right number of people. Visitors may become uncomfortable if the group is too small or large.
Preparing the Lesson: The leader must completely and thoroughly prepare the lesson in advance.
‘The Disciple’ is about life. It is all about the “Witness of Life.” Jesus Christ said:
“A new commandment I give to you that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34, 35)
